Education for the Underprivileged in India

India is a nation in development. India is no longer listed among the nations with the worst levels of poverty, according to a UNICEF assessment. India has made economic strides, but not everyone has benefited from them. The lives of the poor, especially women and children, have changed very little or not at all. Due to factors such as lack of sanitary facilities in schools and poverty, education for underprivileged children suffers. India ranks 114 out of 132 nations, which is very low on the standard child nutrition calculator. This directly affects how well-off kids are educated. Children who are malnourished perform poorly in school.

Difficulties with Education

Most of the population of school-aged children is of low income. In India, children are dispersed across substantial urban-rural divisions. The difficulty of this situation places an enormous burden on the public school system. The Indian government puts a lot of effort into ensuring that this population explosion has access to a foundational education. However, the education quality in Indian schools has degraded as a result of meeting the demands of the public and providing the necessary amount of education.

Why education is not provided to poor children

Poverty:

One of the main causes of poor children’s lack of access to a quality education is poverty. The majority of the parents of these underprivileged kids are wage workers. Due to a lack of awareness, they lack literacy and do not recognise the need for a quality education. Children in low-income families are frequently encouraged to engage in labor-intensive activities or assist around the house. Between the ages of 5 and 14, there are more than 8.3 million child laborers worldwide. In this situation, providing poor kids with an education is a pipe dream.

Adolescent Marriage:

India has long engaged in the tradition of child marriage. Many people continue to engage in the custom despite it being illegal according to the authorities. The main causes of child marriage are religious customs along with societal and economic concerns. It is one of the main causes of children’s, particularly girls’, inadequate education. In India, the number of child brides is the greatest, according to a UN research.

Infrastructure:

Other issues affecting poor child education include the absence of appropriate schools in rural areas and the distance that children must travel to get to school. Rural areas are likewise lacking in teachers. There is an imbalance between the number of open positions and the amount of persons who would really move to teach in remote areas.
